This Opening Day, Embrace The Suffering

“The truest currency of baseball has always been complaining about baseball, an ouroboros of despair that has created a sport where the rules change every 15 minutes and are altered by thugs and morons who complain about baseball more than they watch it.” On the other hand, hey everybody… we got baseball! Also, I’m a St. Louis Cardinals fan… there isn’t a lot of suffering had here. See: Arenado, Nolan.

Godzilla vs. Kong Is Heart-Stoppingly Stupid But Sporadically Entertaining

This is pretty much the only review you need regarding Godzilla vs. Kong. I haven’t seen any of the Legendary Entertainment MonsterVerse movies i.e. Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) so I probably won’t be watching this one either. If you dig kaiju hitting each other and destroying cities… I’m sure my two cents will not dissuade you from watching.

Why Sci-Fi Legend Ted Chiang Fears Capitalism, Not A.I.

This is a link to the transcript from the Ezra Klein Show podcast. I’m a massive fan of Ted Chiang, who I think is easily one of the finest science fiction writers working today. His stories are wonderful, intricate, and thought-provoking. Chiang is incredibly private, so I was excited to hear the conversation. I’m not sure I totally agree with him regarding superheroes, but I like that he’s thought about it at great length.

Never Cry In A Strip Club

John DeVore pens an essay about intimacy, heartbreak, and addiction. Contrary to the title, it is not about strip clubs.

Trump Is Small Now

To be honest, he was always small. Just ask E. Jean Carroll. [Ba dum tss!] I’m here all week people… tip your bartenders and waitresses. Leitch boils Trump down with one line, “But now that he’s not President anymore, he’s just an old man playing golf in Florida and rambling on to anyone within earshot.” So, Grandpa Simpson yelling at clouds. Yawn.
